Upon arrival at Keflavík Airport, your self-drive car will be waiting for you at the airport. If you arrive early in the day, you have the option to upgrade and visit the Blue Lagoon (this is optional and not included).
After checking into your accommodation, explore Laugavegur, Reykjavík’s main street, where you can enjoy its diverse shops and cozy cafes.

Begin your journey by driving north through the historic Borgarfjörður area. A visit to the Icelandic Settlement Centre in Borgarnes is a great way to delve into Iceland’s history. Continue to the stunning Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, and marvel at Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. For a unique experience, consider an optional guided tour to Langjökull glacier and its manmade ice cave. As you’re away from Reykjavík’s lights, keep an eye out for the northern lights in the evening.*
Spend the next two nights in the Borgarnes area.

Explore Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park, known for its breathtaking natural beauty. For the adventurous, an optional guided glacier hike is available. Next, visit Fjallsárlón and then the renowned Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon to witness icebergs drifting by. If conditions are favorable, you might even catch a glimpse of the northern lights. Stop by Diamond Beach to see ice chunks that have washed ashore, polished by the lagoon’s surf.

Drive the classic Golden Circle route, starting with Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can walk along the rift valley between tectonic plates. Next, visit the Haukadalur geothermal area to see Geysir and its active neighbor, Strokkur. End the day at Gullfoss waterfall, one of Iceland’s most impressive natural features, before heading south to your accommodation.

From Kirkjubæjarklaustur, head to Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park, known for its stunning landscapes. Continue to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon to see floating icebergs and visit Diamond Beach, where ice chunks wash ashore. Also explore the smaller Fjallsárlón lagoon before returning to Kirkjubæjarklaustur.
