Northern Lights & Glacier Lagoon Adventure

Upon arrival at Keflavík Airport, your self-drive car will be waiting for you at the airport. If you arrive early in the day, you have the option to upgrade and visit the Blue Lagoon (this is optional and not included). 

After checking into your accommodation, explore Laugavegur, Reykjavík’s main street, where you can enjoy its diverse shops and cozy cafes.

Overnight stay in Reykjavík.

Pick up your rental car in the morning and drive along the scenic south coast. Stop at Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where you can walk behind the cascading water, and continue to the majestic 60-meter Skógafoss waterfall. For a unique adventure, consider optional activities such as a guided glacier hike, a snowmobile tour, or an ATV 4×4 tour at Sólheimajökull. If conditions permit, you might also catch a glimpse of the northern lights in the evening.*

Spend the night in the Kirkjubæjarklaustur area.

Explore Skaftafell, a stunning area within Vatnajökull National Park. For a thrill, join a guided glacier hike*. Next, visit Fjallsárlón, a smaller lagoon, before heading to the renowned Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon to witness icebergs floating in the serene waters. Finish your day at Diamond Beach, where chunks of ice sparkle against the black sand.

Spend the night in the Kirkjubæjarklaustur area.

Drive along the south coast, stopping at the volcanic black sand beaches near Vík and the 120-meter-high Dyrhólaey promontory, known for its rock arch and cliff views. Explore the Reynisdrangar basalt columns rising from the sea. Consider visiting the Lava Center at Hvolsvöllur for insights into volcanoes and earthquakes (entrance not included) or partake in an exciting optional activity.

Spend the night in the Selfoss area.

Driving distance: 203 km / 126 miles

Caution: Be aware of powerful rogue waves and strong undertows at Reynisfjara beach.

As you head back to Reykjavík, drive the iconic Golden Circle. Visit the explosion crater Kerið, explore the geothermal Geysir area with its bubbling mud pots and spouting geysers, and marvel at the stunning Gullfoss waterfall. Conclude your tour at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its historical significance and natural beauty.

Spend the night in Reykjavik.

As your Iceland adventure comes to a close, consider visiting the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa to unwind in the warm mineral waters before heading to the airport (optional and not included).
